What you’ve got here is the rarest, most sought-after scent in the world.

Diehard oud connoisseurs have high demands, extremely refined olfactory acumen, and they’re not afraid to invest top dollar into getting the perfect bottle of artisanal oud oil.

I’ve made it my life’s work to distill the highest caliber oud possible for oudepts like those who demand nothing besides.

Our formula is straightforward:

  1. Track down the best suited agarwood possible.
  2. Distill it artisanally—and with a vision and style that’s uniquely Oriscent.

While that sounds easy enough, Oriscent ouds can take months, even years to produce, and our team is personally involved every step of the way. From finding the raw materails, to grading and sorting harvests, preparing batches for distillation, and transporting those batches across borders, on planes and trains, often on multiple trips to secure a single distillation.

We don’t settle for sub-par raw agarwood, and the rare aquilarias we seek out are fabulously expensive to acquire and risky to work with.

A single distillation can run for months at a time (compared to the 3 to 14 days it takes for 99% of the world’s oud to get made), and that’s without taking sourcing of the wood, cleaning, chiseling, grading, pre-distillation prepping, and curing into account. Not to mention, the ouds in our collection have also been naturally aged for several years.

We distill incense-grade batches of various species of agarwood from legendary jungles like Nha Trang (Vietnam), Malinau (Borneo), Jayapura (Papua), Pursat (Cambodia), and Myitkyina (Myanmar). Either we were around years ago to distill agarwood you cannot find in any jungle today, or we painstakingly scour veteran collectors’ stashes for rare vintage batches, then go through logical insanities to distill them in ways other distillers would pay big money to find out how.

Anybody can make oud. In fact, everybody seems to be trying to do so nowadays. But this is a craft that is not learnt overnight, and it took a severe affliction of OCD and prodigious mentors to turn Oriscent into the most highly regarded artisanal oud house in the world.

We run a tight ship with a small, dedicated team of fellow oudheads to bring you the very rarest batches of wild harvested incense-grade distillations from the remotest jungles, distilled Oriscent-style to capture a degree of depth and complexity from this hallowed resin that’s hard to penetrate any deeper.

BUT—we don’t just do top tier incense-grade oud. That’s given; that we use only premium agarwood is a fact any Oriscent collector takes for granted. There’s a unique aesthetic that makes Oriscent ouds even more sought-after…

I’ve been infatuated with a certain kind of agarwood called ‘kinam’ or ‘kyara’. It’s by far the most expensive kind. I got this bug from hanging out with kinam connoisseurs for way too long. Kinam became the prism that reflected everything you end up smelling in our ouds.

Capturing the “green dragon’s” breath in our distillations was the defining obsession that embodied just about every project we threw ourselves into. I wanted the kyara smell, and we’ve been able unearth it in places you’re not supposed to find it. Whatever tools and wood we use serve this goal. They’re never an end in themselves. Kinam is the Oriscent aesthetic.

I’ve had the great fortune to work with kinam gurus and master distillers across China and the Far East, and Oriscent showcases over almost two decades worth of collaborations with these olfactory savants.

Oriscent ouds are a labor of love. The operation is entirely self-funded, so we have no partners to answer to. We can choose to tempt bankruptcy for the sake of a new project, as we’ve done many times with single distillations that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, for example:

  • Royal Kinam: ~ $190,000
  • Kyara: ~ $153,000
  • Nha Trang: ~ $433,000

While a single yield costs us more than a brand new decked-out Rolls Royce, the ouds you acquire and the wood they’re distilled from – including kinam – is of the highest order.

Our distilleries are… different. Our kinam is sourced directly and our oils are often the fruit of collaborating with TCM practitioners.

So, in addition to premium incense-grade insanities, you’ve also just gained access to the rarest collection of kinam on the planet, that spans the breadth of both Japanese and Chinese schools. From certified Shoyeido kinam pellets to Hong Kong kinam strips… to an even rarer category of kinam that I bet you’ve hardly heard of before.

Oriscent runs alongside Ensar Oud to display my complete portfolio.

I’ve been the go-to-purveyor for all serious oud connoisseurs for almost 20 years. I’ve been blessed to have my name attached to the most sought-after oud oils in history (eg. Kyara, Royal Kinam, Oud Royale) and the man Christopher McMahon has called “the best source that I know of for authentic oud oil.”

But nobody would know about me or my oils had it not been for my teachers.

While you can delve into many unique aromatic expressions of artisanal oud at Ensar Oud, Oriscent zooms in on a particular aesthetic of mine and my closest teachers: Kinam.

Certain oud connoisseurs seek out these ouds exclusively, so I’ve decided to exhibit this unique aesthetic on an independent gallery via this site.
